There are many common myths about PTSD. One is the misconception that PTSD is only seen in people who have a weak character and are not able to deal with trauma like the rest of us can. The fact is that PTSD is a very normal, human response to traumatic events. It is directly the result of chemical changes in our brains. Another myth is that everyone must have some aspect of PTSD because we all experience frightening experiences. The truth is that PTSD is very different from normal anxiety. It is also believed by some that PTSD should not be considered a serious medical problem. The fact is that untreated PTSDĀ can ruin lives.
