Seeing Things? Hearing Things? Many of Us Do

Ten percent of the population experiences auditory or visual hallucinations. Often people are too ashamed to mention this, as they fear being labeled mentally incompetent. In fact, in a study involving people who visited various hospitals and complained of hearing voices, doctors were found to associate hearing things with mental illness. Actually, hallucinations are often experienced by otherwise normal people who may be losing their sight or hearing. Hallucinations can also be part of the healing process when a loved one passes. Author and professor of neurology, Oliver Sacks, has written the book on the subject called Hallucinations, due to be released soon.
